Byredo Parfums

Byredo is a Stockholm-based line established in 2006 by Ben Gorham, and originally specializing in home fragrance products. The name Byredo is short for “by redolence”; the fragrances were reportedly all inspired by Gorham’s memories of specific times and places.

I first was introduced to Byredo Parfums at Barney’s in Dallas in 2010 and i fell in LOVE! (FYI-I’m very sensitive and picky when it comes to fragrances and usually prefer men’s because women’s are usually too sweet and strong and trigger an instant migraine.) My favorite since then has been Gypsy Water which has the top notes of Bergamot, lemon, pepper and juniper berries, the heart is incense, pine needles and orris and base notes of amber, vanilla and sandalwood . A mystical and mysterious scent with an earthy feel that I can’t seem to get enough of.

I recently received a generous collection of samples from Byredo. After testing and trying many new scents as well as some classics, I now have a few favorites. What RocksMyStyle about Byredo is that the scents are not overpowering and all have a natural tinge that adds a pleasant je ne sais quoi.My two new favorites are Bal D’Afrique and Oud Immortel.

Bal D’Afrique which is described by Byredo as:

A warm and romantic vetiver inspired by Paris in the late 20’s and its infatuation with African culture, art, music and dance. A mix of the Parisian avantgardism and African culture shaped a unique and vibrant expression. The intense life, the excess and euphoria is illustrated by Bal d’Afrique’s neroli, African marigold and Moroccan cedarwood.

Oud Immortel:

The duo OUD IMMORTEL and ACCORD OUD are both created around Oud, a certain type of wood that because of its use in traditional incense and perfume has gained great cultural significance and has gotten its existence recorded in one of the world’s oldest written texts – the Sanskrit Vedas from India.

When the once light heartwood from the Aquilaria tree becomes infected with a specific type of mold, it defends itself by saturating its core with a dark, highly fragrant, resin. This dark wood, Oud or Agarwood holds a complex fragrance, resembling few or no other natural ingredients.

OUD IMMORTEL is a woody fragrance where patchouli and papyrus are blended to bring smokiness. The tobacco leaves and moss add depth and complexity while the incense and rosewood bring an elegant, ambery sillage.

Oud Immortel definitely reminds me of a place. The typical Oud scent reminds me of Dubai and the traditional fragrances and home fragrances used in the Middle East.

BYREDO Parfum is only sold at Barney’s in the US and online at http://www.Byredo.com
